Hip Hop – Trends and Legacies in Cinema 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
HIP-HOP in cinema: the visual cut of an urban culture. Since its origin, hip-hop has shown itself to be a cultural and archetypically visual manifestation focused on urban manifestation that historically precedes the Harlem Renaissance movement, a construction focused on urban forms and expressions that combined music, dance, poetry and theater. This unity of expressive genres was initially taken to a small audience through independent films for community themes, mixed with comedy that portrayed the daily life of poor communities in Afro-Latin American neighborhoods. The exhibitions were precarious and lacking in quality because the low investment in production material did not guarantee quality but an obvious desire to demonstrate art, of rhyming words, of texts linked together over melodies cut from funk songs and records, thus appealing to the visual portrait of their experiences, style and peculiar characteristics. In the mid-1980s, the first large-scale productions for a large audience began with the production of the documentary STYLE WARS (1982) and the film WILD STYLE (1983), thus kicking off the mass production of films and documentaries focused on and dealing directly with the theme of RAP and its culture: HIP-HOP. What impacts did cinema have on Hip Hop and vice versa?
